MIKE LOWELL

The George Clooney of Baseball

The Angel's MVP
Mike Lowell, an angel incognito.
(that's one damn fine disguise..)

The Sexiest Man In Baseball - Mike Lowell Name: Michael Averett Lowell

Bio: Mikey Lowell, other than being the sexiest man in baseball, has been a survivor all his life. Born on February 24, 1974, Mike has proved his strength on and off the field ever since.

This incredibly sexy Puerto Rican, Spanish and English speaking player bats right, throws right, is number 25, and is a stunningly sexy, stunningly strong, gold glove winning World Series MVP third basemen. With his golden skin, gorgeous smile, captivating eyes, amazing body, and loving heart - Mikey Lowell has easily earned himself the recognition of the sexiest man in baseball.. The George Clooney of baseball, if I may...

Lowell is one of three children. His sister, Cecelia, lost virtually all of her eye sight in an accident as a child. His father, Carl, played for the Puerto Rican national baseball team, is currently a dentist residing in Florida. Mikey’s favorite players growing up consisted of Mike Schmidt of the Philadelphia Phillies and he also followed Jose Canseco closely.

Mike attended Coral Gables High School where he was a star baseball player and received All-State Honors. He also met and later married a girl from his school named Bertica. Later, Lowell attended the Florida International University, on a scholarship, where he was named Freshman All-American and made All-Conference three times. He had his uniform number 15 retired [the first active Golden Panther baseball player to receive the honor] turned in a .353 career average which was the fifth-best in school history. And he graduated with a degree in finance.

In 1995, Mike was drafted to the New York Yankees.
During 1998, while playing for the Columbia Clippers, he batted .311 with 26 homers in 126 games. That September, his work with the Clippers earned him his MLB debute on September 13th, 1998, where he got a hit off of Blue Jay pitcher Kelvim Escobar.

In 1999, newlywed Mike Lowell was traded to the Florida Marlins, and diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. Fortunately, Mikey did not undergo chemotherapy, but underwent radiation and surgery which ended the cancer. Three months later, on May 29th, Lowell returned to the line up and finished his rookie year with a batting average of .253, 12 home runs, and 47 runs batted in. The following season, in 2000, Mikey’s average was .270 with 22 home runs and 91 RBIs. In 2001, Mikey set the Marlin’s record for fewest errors by a third basemen. In 2002, for the first time in his career, Mike was named to the All-Star team. That season he batted .276 with 44 doubles, 24 homers and 92 RBIs.

Yet in 2003, during his season with the Florida Marlins, Lowell was told his cancer had returned. Fortunately, after what seemed as an eternity of a wait, Lowell and family learned that the diagnosis was inaccurate. Lowell had fibrous dysphasia, a structural anomaly of the muscle fibers. Lowell replied, "A freckle on my hip that on film looks like bone cancer.” Fans are still requesting a full picture...

That season he went on to win the World Series against the New York Yankees.

Lowell hasn’t just overcome personal and professional obstacles, but his family background is staggeringly inspiring. His family was forced to flee Cuba during a time of great turmoil because of Fidel Castro, who Lowell stated “hope [Castro] dies.” During the 1960s and the Bay of Pigs invasion, families who opposed the ruler could leave the county. Lowell’s family was allowed one suitcase, a stripped of $125 per adult and $5 per child. Everything else such as cars, furniture, clothes, toys, bank accounts, property, families were forced to leave behind once they fled the country. Mike’s wife, Bertica, is also Cuban. Her father spent 15 years as a political prisoner and her cousin died in a Cuban jail because of Castro.

Lowell’s mother’s cousin never fled Cuba either, who ended up being thrown in prison by Castro’s army. Mike’s father Carl stated, “He was beaten with a riffle butt so repeatedly he lost his eye… when he died in prison he weighed 65 pounds.” In an MSNBC article, Lowell stated, "My dad had to pack up his suitcase at 10 years old with his three brothers, who had nothing. And my mother was 11 years old and my grandfather, who’d been a dentist for 15 or 20 years, had to go back to school to be (politically) re-educated.” "My cousins were political prisoners. My father-in-law was a political prisoner for 15 years because, at 19, they asked him if he agreed with communism and he said, 'No,' so they sentenced him to death," Lowell stated. All Red Sox Nation, or any human being, would need to hear to understand the extreme tribulations Cubans went through would be this one horrible story of what this one family persevered through because of Castro. As Lowell stated, “Life gives you obstacles. No one gets to cruise through.”

Lowell isn’t just a survivor in his personal life, but academically and professionally Lowell exceeds far above the rest of man kind yet again. Lowell excelled in academics, ranking third in his class. In 2007 Lowell batted in 21 home runs with a record setting 121 RBIs – highest RBI for Red Sox third basemen.

To name some of the awards Lowell has won - which aren’t enough for this man - is the NL Gold Glove for Third Base in 2005, 4-time All Star, Tony Conigliaro Award Winner 1999 [given to a Player who has overcome adversity through the attributes of spirit, determination and courage] , Jackie Jensen Award 2006, TYIB Defensive Player of the Year 2006, World Series Champion (2007) World Series MVP Boston Red Sox (2007) Holds the all time highest fielding percentage for a third baseman (as of the end of the 2007 season). He holds the Red Sox franchise single-season record for most RBIs by a 3rd baseman (2007) and in 2003 he was named the "Person of the Year" by the Boys and Girls Club of Miami.

Gold glove winner, cancer survivor, and World Series MVP Champion, are just a few of the reasons that make Mike Lowell the ‘George Clooney’ of baseball - who has been to hell and back. And came back in 2003 with a game winning NLCS 11th inning homerun - which looking back now was a precursor to where Lowell stands now (on top of the freakin' world)

Mikey reaches Legendary Angel Status
After keeping his promises for one Massachusetts family

Mike Lowell’s amazing season was lifted to lengendary angel status after what he did on and off the field for one Massachusetts family. As if Lowell's heart couldn't get any bigger, Mikey rewrote the book of earth's angels when he brought light and life into a family's darkest times.

On April 20, 2007, 18-year-old Courtney Butcher was killed in a car accident on a road in Leicester, Massachusetts. Her favorite player was Mike Lowell. Courtney had monster seat tickets to the April 22 Red Sox - Yankee game at Fenway Park.Upon hearing of the horrible accident from a mutal friend, Mikey promised the family a homerun for Courtney Butcher and her loving family.

During that night's game --which Courtney would have attended in the monster seats-- the Red Sox were trailing the New York Yankees 3-0 in the bottom of the third. WIth two outs, Manny Ramirez steps to the plate and gets a booming home run. Following Manny, left fielder J.D. Drew clocked a homerun to right field. Then came the field angel, Mike Lowell, who got a towering home run right over the monster seats where Courtney was sitting in spirit. Then captain Jason Varitek got the fourth home run to bring the lead 4-3.

Two nights after that, he signed a jersey which was presented at Butcher’s wake. “Courtney, may God be with you,” it read. “Rest in peace.”

Three months later, the Butchers attended the Sox-Rays matchup with the family of Bryan Rossik, who was also killed in the crash. They met Lowell before the game, and he gave them a tour of the dugout.

That night, the Red Sox trailed 1-0 in the ninth when Lowell stepped to the plate against closer Al Reyes. And once again he delivered, blasting the game-tying homer in a 2-1 victory.

“Right before the pitch I looked up toward the sky and said, ‘Honey, we need something from your guy right about now,” said Courtney’s father Jim. “It was unbelievable.”

I am the biggest Mike Lowell fan - in the world. If this man wasn't already married, I'd marry him. My second favorite player would be the other sexiest man in baseball, Jason Varitek, who should be dubbed Baseball's Sexiest Catcher.
If I've offended you, or upset you, I can be reached by my contacts below. I mean no harm by creating a site praising a man's looks, abilities, and well, looks, with such a sarcastic sexual tone. I'm pathetic, I get that. But if you still find it offensive, I can be contacted by the following and I'll attempt to fix what I can:
Mike Lowell's biggest fan - Ashley Bartolome (this is me getting ready the last Yankee game of the 07 regular season)
