Do we miss Johnny Damon?

Do we miss Johnny Damon?
It didn’t help that Coco Crisp, his supposed replacement in center field and in the leadoff batting spot, was hurt after playing five games in April. In his absence, putting Kevin Youkilis in Damon’s leadoff spot -- and at first base -- was inspired decisions. You can’t argue with Youklis’s ..330 batting average and .434 on-base percentage through the first month and a half of the season. In center field, Wily Mo Pena is doing alright in Damon’s place, and he hasn’t really started hitting the long ball yet. He was batting a career high .319 in mid-May. Still, Damon is killing ‘em in New York . . . such a shame he’s a Yankee.

Not a bit. Plus, he looks strangely comical with that shorter hair cut.

Truthfully, I tired of Johnny's incessant self-promotion about midway through last season when it became glaringly apparent that he was courting other teams, so on a personal level, no I don't miss him. This year, though, the team has struggled with offensive consistency & I do have to wonder how much of the "engine" he was. It hasn't helped that Crisp, the leadoff heir-apparent, missed 40+ games & is now struggling to get his timing back at the plate. Over the long term, I think the Sox will be a better team both defensively and offensively with Crisp, though. He's younger, faster, can hit with more power, and has a better arm than Damon.
